    Felix Mahfoud is an interventional cardiologist, at the Klinik für Innere Medizin III Kardiologie, Angiologie und Internistische Intensivmedizin, Universitätsklinikum des Saarlandes, Homburg/Saar, Germany, an ESH Hypertension Excellence Center. His studies were in human medicine at Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main, Germany and University of Toronto, Canada.

    He is the Vice-Chairman ‘Working Group Heart and Kidney’ German Society of Cardiology and German Society of Nephrology since 2011, nucleus member of the Working Group on  Interventional Treatment of Hypertension of the ESH since 2012.

    Renata Cífková, MD, PhD, FESC, is Head of the Center for Cardiovascular Prevention, Charles University Medical School and Thomayer Hospital, Prague, Czech Republic.

    Her main research interest is epidemiology of cardiovascular risk factors, primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and clinical trials in this field. She served as Secretary to the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) (1999-2005). She is currently ESH Educational Activities Committee Secretary and Chairperson of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group “Hypertension and the Heart”.

    Past President of the French Society of Hypertension, Pierre-Francois Plouin is an internist and Head of the Department of Hypertension and Vascular Medicine at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou, in Paris and Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at René Descartes Medical School, Paris 5, France. He received his MD from Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris, France.

    Areas of interest and expertise include physiology of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, pathophysiology of adrenocortical secreting tumors, pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas, therapeutics of hypertension and vascular diseases, specifically renovascular disease and fibromuscular dysplasia.

  • Roland Schmieder

    Roland Schmieder graduated in medicine at the University of Tübingen, Germany. His postgraduate medical training in nephrology, cardiology and hypertension was first at the University Hospital of Bonn, Germany and later at the Alton Ochsner Foundation, Ochsner Clinic, New Orleans, USA.

    He is currently Professor of Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Hypertension and Head of the Clinical Research  Unit of Hypertension and Vascular Medicine at the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, University Hospital Erlangen, Germany. He directs the Institute of Preventive Medicine at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Community Hospital Nuremberg ( ) as well as currently being member of the Council of the European and International Society of Hypertension.
